The UN Youth Summit & Willingdon School participates at COP15

Willingdon Elementary along with their Science Teacher, Kathleen Usher
Montreal - Monday, December 12, 2022

Students from Willingdon Elementary along with their Science Teacher, Kathleen Usher, attended the United Nations's Association of Canada's Youth Festival event on Sunday and premiered the video they made in collaboration with students from Kunming, China, where COP15 started in 2021. The video was produced with the help of Hanying Li who is the East Asia chair on the International Commission for the Protection of Nature (IUCN).

The students from Willingdon's Grade 6 Green Committee are featured in the video along with children from Chunyuan Primary School in Kunming. The students are also writing letters to each other, sharing what they love about their cities and how they strive to make a difference and protect biodiversity through everyday actions such as packing garbage-free lunches and picking up litter from the school grounds.

Violet Lamoureux is touring COP15 as the youngest delegate today, Monday December 12th, with Jessica Smith from the United Nations Finance division and has sat in on important meetings with Development Banks. Violet will share her experiences following her day at COP15! Youth in action, our last, best hope for a sustainable future!
