The Educational Services Department of the English Montreal School Board formally presented data from the 2021-22 annual report at a meeting of the Council of Commissioners.

As of June 2022, the seven-year graduation and qualification success rate for the 2014 cohort is at 91.6 percent, a slight decrease of about two percent from the previous year. Six year graduation rate is at 91 percent, positioning the EMSB  to surpass its 2022 results. The Board has achieved its target.

It should be noted that 2022 marked the final year of the initial Commitment to Success Plan. In most academic areas, student results are within range for achieving the targets set for 2022. The results of the June 2022 exam session are the first point of comparison since 2019, when the pandemic interrupted end of year evaluations. It is likely that the EMSB will continue to monitor the same academic goals in the new plan, with adjusted targets for students.

The Facility Condition Index (FCI) is a ratio that indicates the five-year maintenance costs for buildings compared to replacement costs. The Board’s FCI increased from 27.15 in 2020 to 30.09 in 2021. The ratio has been impacted by the migration of data from Simacs asset management software to Maximo. This transition enables the MEQ and the Board to comply with the school infrastructure management framework, as well as standardizing inspections and asset management across the province.

The Board continues to pursue its plan towards improving the mental health and well-being of employees. In the 2021-2022 academic year, the Board continued its focus on the identified areas of improvement by providing resources to employees to improve their mental health and overall wellness. In addition to regularly promoting the Board’s Employee Family Assistance Program, mental health tips are provided by the program through various apps or their website. New tools and materials were made available during the 2021-2022 acdemic year, to provide further assistance to employees and their families.

Finally, all elementary schools have received resources and training to support an additional 60 minutes of  physical activity throughout the school day. The goal of this initiative is to increase opportunities for students to be physically active throughout the school day and promote the use of physical activity to support learning and overall student success.
